The new Bristol Animal Shelter on Minturn Farm Road is nearing completion.

The non-profit Friends of the Bristol Animal Shelter group is selling raffle tickets for a handmade afghan created by Leslie Jarbeau to help reach the capital campaign goal of $350,000.

On Wednesday, Aug. 6, the Friends group presented a $125,000 check to the Bristol Town Council as the first installment of its $185,000 pledge that allowed the inclusion of a humane education center to be constructed in the soon to be opened animal shelter.

Nearing completion, the new Bristol Animal Shelter will replace and improve upon the current facility that has fallen into disrepair and is substandard to meet the needs of the community and health code guidelines.

The afghan is on display in the Hope Street window of the Rogers Free Library. Tickets are $20 each and can be purchased at Paper, Packaging and Panache, The Knotty Dog and Alfred’s.
