PORTSMOUTH — Opening-day anglers made the Melville Ponds Campground a busy place Saturday morning.
They cast lines from the shore, by boat and even by kayak for the opening of trout season, which began at dawn.
Bob and Deborah Palmer come every year, but said this opening day was among the best ever.
Fishing from a wooden platform nearby, Gilmore Salamon agreed, saying the weather was warm and the waters calm.
The catch limit was five fish per person. By 9 a.m. the Palmers had nine trout, but the last remaining fish remained elusive.
“That 10th fish is the tough one,” said Mr. Palmer.
