EAST PROVIDENCE — There should be a bit bigger jump in their step, a little more clarity of sound for the current and future members of the East Providence High School marching band after the program received a legislative grant from the General Assembly in the amount of $5,000 towards the purchase of new instruments.

EPHS teacher and House representative from District 65 in city Gregg Amore recently presented the grant to EPHS marching band director and music teacher Marisa Martinez and her students in the school’s music room. A new horn has already been bought with other instruments to follow. The tools will be used both by the band, known to many as “The Spirit of East Providence,” and music students at EPHS.
