Warren’s successful theater company recently offered the town $100,000 for the old brick building, which is only about 200 yards from its headquarters and show space on Market. Officials at the theater hope to turn the old school into a rehearsal space and workshop where sets and other props would be worked on.
The theater’s offer came in the latest round of bidding on the old building, which the Town of Warren has been trying to sell for years. Town officials received one other bid, from local builder Thomas Principe. He offered the town $75,000 for the property and wants to turn it into several residences; he did not specify whether they’d be condos or rentals. A third offer also exists, though it’s been on the table for some time. Scott Mathison, a woodworker and carpenter, offered the Town of Warren $100 for the building months ago.
Warren Town Council members were expected to discuss the three bids at Tuesday night’s council meeting. Warren Town Planner Caroline Wells said there’s no specific timetable for a decision on the building’s fate.
