Town officials are still waiting to hear a salvage plan from the owner of a 23-foot sailboat that sank at its mooring in the lower Warren River a week ago.
All that’s visible of the boat now is about 12 feet of mast protruding from the water, and the mooring ball to which it is tied. The boat, owned by a Warren man, was on a rented commercial mooring just north of Jacob’s Point when it started taking on water last Wednesday and sank in about 12 feet of water. Warren Harbormaster Matt Calouro said he did not have the name of the owner handy, but he said town officials have cited the man before when his boat went down a previous time. Right now, he said Monday, he is waiting to hear the man’s plan on how to raise the vessel.
After the sinking, Warren police contacted the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management and United States Coast Guard.
