College Notes: CCC Athletes of the Week for Jan. 23

SPRINGFIELD, MASS. — The Commonwealth Coast Conference released its list of sports award winners for the week of Jan. 16-22, with Roger Williams University's Pat Flanagan taking home the top male honor during that span.

COMMONWEALTH COAST CONFERENCE ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

MEN’S BASKETBALL

PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Roger Williams University senior center Pat Flanagan (Somerville, Mass.) collected three straight double-doubles and averaged an impressive 24.0 points, 12.3 rebounds, 3.3 blocked shots and 1.3 steals per game as the Hawks rolled to a 2-1 weekly record in CCC play last week.

In addition to hitting his first 11 shots from the field, Flanagan registered 34 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks in a 79-75 victory over Nichols. He followed with 22 points and 13 boards in a tough 69-68 setback to Western New England. Flanagan closed out the week with 16 points, 12 rebounds and six blocks in a 75-72 win over host Salve Regina. In three games, Flanagan shot an impressive 64% from the field (30-of-47) and 80% from the line (12-of-15).

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK – Nichols College freshman forward Matt Langadas (Casco, Maine) averaged 15.3 points, 2.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.3 steals per game over his first three collegiate starts for the Bison. He opened the week with 16 points and five rebounds in a tough 79-75 setback at Roger Williams, followed with 13 points, two rebounds and two assists in an 83-75 loss to Salve Regina, and closed out the week with a career-high 17 points, four assists and three steals in a big 71-69 triumph at Gordon. For the week, Langadas shot 57% from the field (17-of-30) and was a marksmanlike 11-of-11 from the free-throw line.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Salve Regina University sophomore forward Marissa Pendergast (Medfield, Mass.) averaged 13.0 points and 11.0 rebounds per game as the Seahawks soared to a 3-0 CCC record last week. She opened the week with 13 points, a game-high 14 rebounds and four assists in a 69-30 win over Wentworth, followed with 11 points and a game-best 12 rebounds in a 53-39 victory over Nichols, and closed out the week with 15 points, and seven rebounds in a 61-30 triumph over in-state rival Roger Williams. Pendergast averaged a double-double despite playing an average of just 25 minutes per contest. She shot 52% from the field (15-of-29) and 69% from the line (9-of-13).

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK – Playing 118 of a possible 120 minutes, Curry College freshman guard Kylie Beltz (Pequot Lakes, Minn.) averaged 17.0 points, 6.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 2.3 steals per game as the Colonels strung together a 2-1 week against CCC opponents. She opened the week with 13 points and seven rebounds in a tough 58-54 loss to Western New England, but came up big as the leading scorer in both of Curry’s next two games. Beltz collected 17 points, nine rebounds, five assists and three steals in a 60-49 win at Eastern Nazarene and followed with 21 points and four rebounds in a 59-50 victory over Wentworth. She shot 42% from the field (14-of-33) and 77% from the line (20-of-26).
