SAKONNET AREA — The all-star cast filmed out on Prudence, set out by fishing boat from Standish Boatyard in Tiverton, and spent time at Glen Manor House dock, off Gould Island (the Sakonnet River one) and a host of other places.
And now the first glimpse of those efforts can be seen on a trailer promoting the upcoming movie Moonrise Kingdom.
The Rhode Island Film & TV Office announced this week that the theatrical trailer for Wes Anderson's newest feature film is now available at http://www.film.ri.gov/Moonrise.html.
Co-written by director Anderson and Roman Coppola, and featuring big-name stars as well as a host of local Rhode Island talent, Moonrise Kingdom was filmed entirely in the Ocean State and will showcase the state to a global audience (Prudence Islanders will recognize the campsite locations).
Focus Features will release the movie beginning May 25.
Set on an island off the coast of New England in the summer of 1965, Moonrise Kingdom tells the story of two 12-year-olds who fall in love, make a secret pact, and run away together into the wilderness.
As authorities try to hunt them down, a violent storm is brewing off-shore and the peaceful island community is turned upside down in more ways than anyone can handle.
Bruce Willis plays the local sheriff. Edward Norton is a Khaki Scout troop leader. Bill Murray and Frances McDormand portray the young girl’s parents. The cast also includes Tilda Swinton, Jason Schwartzman, and Jared Gilman and Kara Hayward as the boy and girl.
After viewing the trailer, Film Office Executive Director Steven Feinberg said, “The movie, and Rhode Island as a location, looks amazing! The brief glimpse we get whets our appetite for Moonrise Kingdom’s theatrical release. This is pure Wes Anderson at his very best. Check it out!”
