The Prudence Island Volunteer Fire Department was recognized at the Portsmouth town council meeting Monday for its 70th anniversary. The department was incorporated on Jan. 22, 1942. Council President Joseph Robicheau presented Prudence Fire Chief Bob Marshall and officer George Gempp with a plaque and proclamation for the occasion.
At the meeting the department was also granted a request to make an official no parking zone on Narragansett Avenue across from the building to allow enough room for the engines to exit the building.
