WESTPORT — Former Selectman Brian Valcourt, who entered his name in the Westport Board of Selectmen race at the last minute last Thursday, is back out of the running.
Mr. Valcourt sent out notice late Tuesday that he “will not run for Westport Selectman this year due to unexpected family concerns. After careful consideration, Brian Valcourt will not submit his signed nomination papers for the 2012 selectmen race.”
Which now means that there won’t be a single contested race (not counting write-ins) in the April 10 town elections.
The rest — no contest
The election also includes two three-year spots on the school committee. They are currently held by Antonio Viveiros, who has filed to run again, and James Bernard who has announced that he will not seek reelection.
Joining Mr. Viveiros in filing for school committee is Silvia C. Africano.
Other filings by last week’s deadline were:
• Assessor, three-year term: Robert Grillo.
• Board of Health: John Colletti.
• Fish Commission: No candidate
• Trustees pf Free Public Library, two seats, three years: Nancy M. Dawson, Paul Cabral.
• Landing Commission, two seats, three years: Jefferson G. Bull, Carl F. Tripp.
• Planning Board, five-year seat: James T. Whitin.
• Planning Board, to fill unexpired seat (two years): William D. Raus.
• Commissioners of Trust Funds, three years: No candidate.
Town Clerk Marlene Samson said there is usually more competition for seats in Westport and that she’s not sure why there was so little interest this time around.
