Tiverton litter onslaught goes on, year after year

To the editor:

For the past 10 years, I have walked Neck Road in Tiverton from Main Road to Seapowet and back at least once a week. On average, I pick up 20 items per walk, items that folks carelessly toss out their windows. Bud Lite cans, coffee cups and cigarette packs make up the majority of these items.

So let's do the math: 20 items x 10 years x 52 weeks =10,400 items. Now, imagine this portion of Neck Road with over 10 thousand items lining the sides. Imagine.

I am not patting myself on the back for this effort because I love Tiverton’s rural beauty and take pride in my neighborhood. The point is that it takes a comminity to prevent litter and, once litter hits the ground, to clean it up.

If every resident cleaned the front of their properties and adjacent properties that may be undeveloped, the appearance of this town would be enhanced, making it attractive to new businesses and families.
