To the editor:
Last week in his State of the Union Address, President Obama emphasized the need to “lessen the gap between Washington and the public.” He proposed a plan to end the insider trading from which members of Congress and the House have been reaping vast fortunes.
I firmly agree with President Obama’s proposal. I believe that the government our Founding Fathers envisioned was one in which the people who govern the country and the governees are afforded the same rights and held to the same standard.
It is incredibly unfair in my opinion that our government can put CEOs of companies in jail for participating in insider trading, yet it is perfectly fine for them to do it. This practice is wrong and must be stopped so that this sloped playing field can be flattened out and made equal for all participants.
