Citizens police academy worth your time

— To the editor:

In follow up to the letter in the Bristol Phoenix (Jan. 26) I would like to add my thoughts. The citizens police academy was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had. The knowledge of the men and women in the department is overwhelming. It’s nice to know why they do what they do and the laws and politics involved.

The lieutenants, sergeants, patrolmen and dispatchers volunteer their time so that we can get an inside view on how this finely-tuned department operates under the supervision of a fine chief. How many of us in town are aware that our police department is one of seven accredited departments out of 39 departments in the State of Rhode Island? (Hopefully, I have my figures correct). My only complaint is that 10 weeks isn’t enough time for this academy.

Thank you to the department, as it certainly was informative as well as enjoyable. Anyone who has any inclination should attend this academy. It’s truly worth your while.
