Westport students to walk out in memory of shooting victims

Posted

Westport Junior-Senior High School students will stand united with students of Stoneman Douglas High School this Wednesday, March 14 with a morning walkout.

The event, called Westport Stands United is “in remembrance of the 17 people who lost their lives in the recent Florida shooting,” said Delaney Wilkinson and Melena Rodriguez who are among the organizers.

They said that the planning is being done with help and permission from school administration.

At 10 a.m., they said participating students will leave the back of the school building and stand around the memorial garden.

“For 17 minutes, students and staff will be making speeches and a group of students will sing. There will also be a moment of silence. We have asked students to make posters to bring to the event.

They said they are also inviting the media “in hopes that you can help us bring attention to the shared unity being exemplified in our school that day.”
