Fishing gear, tools and more were discovered Thursday when Westport Police executed a search warrant seeking items believed to have been stolen from various locations.
At approximately 8:30 p.m., Westport officers, working with the Fall River Police Major Crimes Division, went to 138 Briggs Road in Westport.
Earlier in the day, Detective Jeff Majewski said, investigators discovered that several stolen items had been taken to a Fall River Pawn Shop. Based on information gained from that pawn shop transaction, Westport Detective Robert Rebello obtained a search warrant to look for additional stolen items at the Westport address.
The investigation began after the theft of several thousand dollars worth of fishing rods and reels along with thousands of dollars in stolen construction tools from an Amory Pettey Way (east of Sawdy Pond) address in Westport. The theft occurred during the past two weeks.
During the investigation, Tobias Araujo, 58 of 138 Briggs Road became one of the suspects in the investigation. Mr. Araujo was located at the Briggs Road address when the search was carried out, and Det. Majewski said the suspect spoke with investigators which led to the location of additional stolen items inside the residence.
Police said that Mr. Araujo identified a second individual and detectives are now working on that lead.
During the search, investigators located identification cards and membership patches from the Fall River Sidewinders Outlaw Motorcycle Club.
Mr. Araujo was arrested and charged with receiving stolen property, possession of ammunition without a firearms identification card, and possession of a dangerous weapon.
This incident is still under investigation.
