PORTSMOUTH — See the fruits of their labors when advanced-placement photography students from Portsmouth High School exhibit their images of local historical scenes.

Along with AP photography teacher Rose Escobar, students invite the community to the opening reception of “Portsmouth Living History,” from 3:30-5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 7, at the Portsmouth Free Public Library.

On Oct. 16 and for the third straight year, Society members Gloria and Richard Schmidt guided the photography students to various historic landmarks around town, including Glen Farm, Greenvale Vineyards and Founders Brook.

"The AP photo program and students give a very special thanks to town historians Gloria and Richard Schmidt, for making this field trip and the students’ work possible, as well as to the Portsmouth Historical Society,” said Ms. Escobar. “The Schmidts’ tour guidance, deep passion for town stories and extensive knowledge of fascinating history made for a fact-packed, fun-filled field trip of our amazing hometown.”

The teacher said the couple’s stories captivated students’ attention and encouraged them to learn more about local history and become stewards of town preservation and conservation efforts.

“Many students didn’t even know some of the public places existed, let alone the stories and historic significance,” Ms. Escobar said.

All are welcome to share stories, food and see the show next week, she said. The exhibit will run throughout November.
