PORTSMOUTH — Competing on its home turf on Wednesday, May 9, the Portsmouth High School boys’ outdoor track team placed fifth in the 2018 Eastern Division Championship. 

Rogers were crowned division champs (161 points), followed by La Salle (140), Barrington (85), East Providence (69), Portsmouth (47), Wheeler (25), Shea (20), Tiverton (11), St. Raphael (10), Mt. Hope (9) and Middletown (6).

The Patriots’ best showing came in the 300-meter hurdles, which was won by sophomore Dan McKinnon in a time of 44.4 seconds. He also took sixth place in the 110-meter hurdles, finishing in a time of 19.14 seconds.

Dave Silvia, a junior, placed second in the pole vault with a best effort of 11 feet. He also took sixth place in the triple jump.

The 4x400-meter relay team of Carsen Prater, Isaiah Kittel, Ethan Shea and Noah Gramitt placed second with a time of 3:43.57. The 4x800-meter team (Vincent Gardner, Prater, Kittel and Ezra Leary) also took second place, in a time of 8:44.86.

In the 400-meter dash, junior Michael Boahin took fourth place (53.4 seconds) and Shea took sixth (53.74 seconds).

Gardner (10:01.63) and Ben Chase (10:03.3) came in sixth and seventh, respectively, in the 3,000-meter run.

Grammitt (4:26.71) and Chase (4:27.61) came in ninth and 10th, respectively, in the 1,500-meter run.

The 4x100-meter relay team of Eli Allen, Sam Bielawa, Weller Littlefield and Nick Yalanis came in sixth in a time of 47.76 seconds.

Littlefield took eighth place in the long jump with a best leap of 19 feet, 4 inches, while Bielawa took fourth in the triple jump with a best effort of 37 feet, 11.25 inches.
