Letter: Animal ordeal’s end is near, let’s not forget

To the editor:

Please do not forget the plight of 1,400 animals that were on the Westport Farm in July 2016. Forever Paws volunteers has diligently followed all but two court proceedings in the Fall River and Taunton courts. The group Stop the Insanity has been there too. We can’t be the only people who want justice for the horrific atrocity that occurred right in our own back yards. In July it will be three years that we followed these cases.

We have time after time listened to motions to dismiss and suppress evidence. These cases have been brought to different judges. Many hours were spent reviewing information presented to the previous judge. Throughout this long and painful procedure the owner of the farm passed away. How does this affect these cases? The prosecuting attorney has been there defending each and every motion against the numerous defense attorneys defending their clients.

Yes, I admit it can be excruciatingly painful to listen to defense attorneys defend the rights of their clients. I fully agree and understand they have the right to be defended. Everyone is innocent until proven guilty. We have seen the proof of their guilt by the many carcasses of animals that were found on the farm and the inhumane condition many were found in when the police and ASPCA had to seize them on the property. These animals were brought away as far as California and Wisconsin to help them survive. Nevertheless, the appalling state these animals were found in cannot and should not be trivialized. There must be justice for them!

Therefore, I invite all animal advocates to join us on Thursday, May 30, at 9 a.m. at Fall River District Court. Please adhere to our respectful demeanor in the courtroom. We wear our yellow and red T-shirts and we remain courteous and reverent. This case made national news back in 2016. Let’s not forget that everyone was horrified by what they learned and saw about the tenant farm in Westport, Massachusetts. The end is near, let’s not forget!
