Josephine F. DeRosa

Josephine F. DeRosa, 93, of Little Compton, died peacefully on Friday, Sept. 7, 2018, at Silver Creek Manor in Bristol. Born in Little Compton, she was the daughter of the late Manuel and Mary (Flores) DeRosa.

She is survived by a niece, Diane Labrecque (John) of Blackstone; nephews Donald Medeiros (Doreen) and Ronald Medeiros (Michelle of Little Compton, and James Medeiros of Tiverton, and many great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Dorothy Medeiros, brother Manuel “Pat” DeRosa, and nephew, Wayne Medeiros.

Ms. DeRosa was employed as a nanny and provided elder care for many families in Little Compton throughout her life.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, Sept. 22, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Catherine of Siena Church in Little Compton. Burial will follow in Our Lady of Fatima Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements are by Fern Acres Funeral Home, Little Compton.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
