Clean beaches and create art on Cuttyhunk visit

Posted

Create something beautiful, and leave a beach cleaner than you found it by joining the Buzzards Bay Coalition and New Bedford-based artist John Middleton on Saturday, September 22, for a trip to Cuttyhunk Island in search of strange and interesting “found objects” to create one-of-a-kind pieces of art. Coalition educators will serve as guides to Cuttyhunk and its beaches, while Mr. Middleton will help find objects worn and transformed by the tides.

The trip to Cuttyhunk will also include a beach cleanup registered with Coastsweep, the state-wide beach cleanup program from the Office of Coastal Zone Management. The boat will depart from Cuttyhunk Water Taxi (52 Fisherman's Wharf, New Bedford) at 10:00 am and will return by approximately 2:00 pm.

Then, on October 3, attend a an art workshop at coalition headquarters (114 Front St., New Bedford) in which Mr. Middletown will show you how to use what you gathered to create art pieces for your home.

A registration fee of $40 covers boat transport aboard the Cuttyhunk Water Taxi and your day out on Cuttyhunk, as well as automatic registration for the workshop. We recommend wearing sturdy walking shoes and bringing lunch and a warm layer for Cuttyhunk, as the island can be chillier than the mainland. All ages welcome.

To RSVP, visit www.savebuzzardsbay.org/events/ or contact the Buzzards Bay Coalition at (508) 999-6363 ext. 219.
