EAST PROVIDENCE — A woman was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries after her boyfriend allegedly forcibly entered her Tenth Street residence and stabbed her.
East Providence Police refused to release the name of the victim, identified only as a 44-year-old female and resident of 27 Tenth Street in the center of the city off Warren Avenue. The suspect was identified as a 49-year-old man. The incident took place around 4:30 Wednesday afternoon.
According to police, the suspect was taken into custody shortly after the altercation took place when a vehicle matching a description of his car given to authorities by a neighbor of the victim was seen by an EPPD patrol on Bullocks Point Avenue a few miles south in Riverside.
The suspect was awaiting arraignment and was being held at the East Providence Police Headquarters overnight. He is being charged with breaking and entering and assault with a dangerous weapon. The victim was being treated for a stab wound to the leg at Rhode Island Hospital.
