ATTENTION TOWN OF PORTSMOUTH, RI RESIDENTS

The Town Council of the Town of Portsmouth, RI is seeking volunteers to serve on the following boards or committees.

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE

The Economic Development Committee supports initiatives that promote balanced growth for the Town with an eye to the future and fosters new development that includes a mix of residential, commercial, recreational and open space land uses.

This Committee also has a vacancy for a Youth Representative. The Youth Representative shall serve for a one (1) year term from September 1 through August 31 of the appropriate year. The youth selected shall reside in Portsmouth and attend either Portsmouth High School or another accredited high school.

GLEN PARK WORKING COMMITTEE

The Glen Park Working Committee was established to over- see the operation and maintenance of the Portsmouth prop- erty known as Glen Park.

LOWER GLEN FARM PRESERVATION COMMITTEE

Preserve and support the farm while supporting equestrian, sporting and social events.

PRUDENCE ISLAND PLANNING COMMISSION

Volunteers would represent both year round and part-time residents, attend meetings on Prudence Island, and assume various Commission responsibilities and duties including occasionally presenting issues before the Town Council.

REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY –

Members work with the Planning Board to provide a description of the area(s) in which substandard conditions are found and make recommendations as to whether rede- velopment is needed. They encourage, direct, and regulate new development within districts of the town and determine which areas cannot be redeveloped. Appointees must be registered voters of the Town of Portsmouth.

TAX ASSESSMENT BOARD OF REVIEW –

The Board hears and considers appeals of any property owner concerning the amount of assessed valuation as determined by the Tax Assessor. Auxiliary Members appointed shall be a qualified elector of the Town of Portsmouth.

To obtain more information and an application, please contact the Town Clerk’s Office, Town Hall, 2200 East Main Road, Portsmouth, between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Completed applications should be returned to the Town Clerk.
