Portsmouth escape bridge restricted to 10 tons

PORTSMOUTH — Vehicles over 10 tons are restricted from crossing the Hummocks Escape Bridge as of Thursday, May 15. The new weight limit means that tractor-trailers, emergency vehicles and school buses will need to seek a different route. Full Story

Two-axle rule for Sakonnet River Bridge in place for now

TIVERTON — The latest Sakonnet River Bridge inspection complete, state engineers are poring over the details to determine whether changes are needed to the 22-ton weight limit. Department of Transportation officials who visited Tiverton Monday said they don't yet know if the limit will be reduced to 18 tons as was done on the I-95 bridge in Pawtucket last week. Full Story
