Warren All Stars look to keep championship dreams alive

It’s time to root on the Warren Little League Minor District All Stars. The team, which Friday knocked off Bristol in the state tournament and then dusted East Providence Sunday, 15 to 8, will face Barrington at 5:45 a.m. at Sherwood Field in Barrington.

The All Stars previously lost to Barrington earlier in the double elimination tournament, but have a chance to avenge that loss tonight. Should they win, the two teams will face off Wednesday night in the District 2 Championship game.

“We feel pretty good,” said coach Steven Furtado, who helps coach along with Shawn Vento, Kim Terceiro and manager Jason Gale.

“I think this is the furthest Warren has made it,” he said. “We have a good team this year.”

Playing for Warren tonight will be catcher Andrew Jones, first baseman Riley Furtado, second basemen Gavin Siembab and Josh Vitullo, shortstop Matt Terceiro, third baseman Shaun Vento, pitcher Dayton Van Amberg, right fielder Nicholas Gomes, center fielder Matthew Gale and left fielders Gavin Winn and Brady Connor.

Warren knocked next door neighbor Bristol out of the tournament last Friday with a 4-1 win at Jannitto Field.
