If the combination of authentic barbecue, creative appetizers, a few drinks with friends all while watching teams of ‘super heroes’ try to spell in front of hundreds sounds good — then do we have a deal for you!
The Bristol Warren Education Foundation (BWEF) is pleased to bring you the sixth-annual Bodacious Bee presented by Jaffe Orthodontics. The Bee will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2014 at the Roger Williams University field house. Along with the competition, the event will feature dinner by the Preppy Pig BBQ, appetizers by 195 Franklin, a cash bar, live auction, raffle, trophies and other surprises.
In addition to the generous support of Jaffe Orthodontics, our signature sponsor, BWEF is fortunate to have support from GTECH, Navigant Credit Union, Roger Williams University, Preppy Pig BBQ and East Bay Newspapers to name a few.
With just under a month to the event BWEF is enthusiastically recruiting and accepting further support in the form of team registrations, sponsorships, ticket sales, raffle tickets and even an auction that is underway and will conclude live at the event.
The theme for this year’s event is ‘Bee a Hero’ and in that spirit BWEF has invited first responders from Bristol and Warren to participate in the competition. Additionally, BWEF is honored to have Sandy Hook Elementary first-grade teacher Kaitlin Roig DeBellis joining us as honorary chair for this year’s Bee. Kaitlin’s story of courage and heroism in saving the lives of her 15 students on December 14, 2012 has been chronicled nationally. Kaitlin is on sabbatical this year, concentrating on the development of Classes 4 Classes (classes4classes.org), a ‘pay-it-forward’ style initiative she created as a response to the events at Sandy Hook. BWEF will donate 1% of all proceeds from this year’s Bee to Classes 4 Classes. We are truly honored to have Kaitlin as our guest and Honorary Chair.

About the Bodacious Bee:
The Bodacious Bee is BWEF’s signature fund-raising event. The Bee is a good-natured, adult spelling bee that pits teams from throughout the community in competition with the ultimate goal of raising funds and awareness in support of a high-quality education for all students in Bristol and Warren. All this takes place in the field house on the Roger Williams University campus where 400+/- guests are served dinner and drinks while enjoying the competition.
Since its inception in 2007, in large part due to the generosity of local businesses, BWEF has awarded over $175,000 in grants to the faculty and staff of the Bristol Warren Regional School District for innovative, high-quality programs that serve to enhance and enrich the students’ educational experience.
