Irene J. (Oliver) Gomes, 91, of Bristol, died Sunday, April 24, 2016 at St. Elizabeth Manor, Bristol.
She was the wife of the late James C. Gomes.
Irene was born in Bristol, daughter of the late Joseph and Dora (Mello) Oliver.

Irene J. (Oliver) Gomes, 91, of Bristol, died Sunday, April 24, 2016 at St. Elizabeth Manor, Bristol.
She was the wife of the late James C. Gomes.
Irene was born in Bristol, daughter of the late Joseph and Dora (Mello) Oliver.
She was employed at Crown Fastener, Nyanza, and R.J. Manufacturing before retiring in 1986.
Irene lived in Warren and Bristol her whole life, and she was a parishioner of St. Thomas the Apostle Church, where she was a former member of the Holy Rosary Sodality.
Mrs. Gomes loved to sing and perform. As a young girl, she sang live on a radio station broadcasted from Fall River, Ma. She was a member of the chorus at Franklin Court Assisted Living. She was Ms. Senior 4th of July 2015 at St. Elizabeth Manor.
Irene loved animals and nature. She loved the water, was an excellent swimmer, and was also an amazing acrobat in her youth.
She is survived by her children Rebecca J. DeFusco of Bristol, Janet Barton of Seattle, Washington, and Alan Gomes of New Hampshire. She also leaves a sister, Sandra Belgarde, and her husband Norman of Venice, Florida. Mrs. Gomes was the grandmother of Shannon DeFusco, and the dear friend of Maria Pereira and Lisa Carissimi, both of Bristol.
Irene was the sister of the late George and Leonard Oliver.
A funeral service will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at Smith Funeral and Memorial Services, 8 Schoolhouse Road, Warren. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Chestnut Street, Bristol.
Calling hours are on Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
