Botelho backs Canvassing decision to hold 2018 election in East Providence

Says he's "satisfied" with outcome

EAST PROVIDENCE — Ward 3 City Councilor Joe Botelho issued the following statement following the May 3 decision of the Canvassing Authority to conduct a full election this November in East Providence:

"Upon reading the canvassing boards decision regarding the term question I was well satisfied. I believe it's the right decision and restores what I have termed the 'stolen' vote of 2012.

"As most of you know, getting this matter resolved was somewhat a personal mission for me, and the boards decision last night offers me an extreme sense of relief that the right thing can still happen in this world.

"I know that this issue has been the root issue of much consternation among us all and and seemed to be a constant cloud over our affairs.

"Now that the cloud has been lifted, it offers an opportunity for us to bury the hatchet, as much as we are able, and focus on the immediate future.

"There is a lot of work that needs to be done leading up to our new form of government and it's my hope that we can all come together, to get it done right.

"Let's make the next 8 months the best a city council ever had. Well, let's give it a shot anyhow."
