Elizabeth J. “Liz” (Walker) Carroll, 53, of 8 Bourbon St., Portsmouth, died Saturday, Jan. 3, 2009, at Forest Farm Health Care Center, Middletown. She was the wife of Michael J. Carroll.
Born in Woonsocket on November 26, 1955, she was the daughter of Dorothy (Desautels) Walker of Newport and the late Robert E. Walker.
Mrs. Carroll attended St. Catherine’s Academy. She was a 1974 graduate of Rogers High School where she was a business honor student. She first worked as a legal secretary for Joseph Going. She then received her Nursing Home Administration License and worked as an administrator for Forest Farm Health Care Center. She worked for the last 31 years at ABANCO Management Corp., serving as their vice president. She was honored by Who’s Who in American Business.
Mrs. Carroll taught CCD at St. Barnabas and served as a marriage preparation counselor. She was a board member of the Down Syndrome Society of R.I., and a board member of the Compassionate Friends in Providence where she served as their newsletter editor. She also enjoyed and taught jewelry making, rubber stamping, beading and knitting.
Besides her husband, she leaves a son, Morgan J. Carroll, and two daughters, Marina J. Carroll and Lydia J. Carroll, all of Portsmouth; five brothers, Robert E. Walker of Newport, Peter J. Walker and Timothy R. Walker, both of of Pasadena, Calif., Michael J. Walker of Newport, and CSM Matthew C. Walker of Fort Benning, Ga.; and three sisters, Patricia A. Stoliker of Tehachapi, Calif., Mary B. Wren of Georgia, W.V., and Christine Palmer of Syracuse, N.Y. She was the mother of the late LCPL Barton J. Carroll.
Her funeral will be held on Friday, Jan. 9, at 9 a.m. from the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 in St. Barnabas Church, 1697 East Main Road, Portsmouth. Burial will be private in Newport Memorial Park in Middletown. Calling hours will be Thursday, Jan. 8, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Connors Funeral Home.
