On Friday, Sept. 12, the Bristol County Lions Club celebrates its 12th annual Wine-Beer Festival and East Bay Pizza Challenge from 6 to 9 p.m. at Linden Place, 500 Hope St. Proceeds fund Lions charities including Ronald McDonald House, Hasbro Children’s Hospital, Good Neighbors Soup Kitchen, Linden Place Restoration Fund, Adopt-A-Family, eyeglasses and exams, college scholarships, local libraries and Thanksgiving baskets. Last year’s event raised over $8,000 for these causes.
Local wines from the Coastal Wine Trail, as well as selections from around the world, will be available for tasting. Rhode Island brewers will be sampling their latest beers. There will be a self-serve pasta station featuring four different dishes, and area restaurants will show off their best pizza and calzone creations.
Everyone will receive a ballot to vote for their favorite pizza and calzone. Trophies will be presented for Best Traditional Cheese Pizza, Best Crust, Best Gourmet Pizza, Best Calzone and Best Overall.
A silent auction contains many packages from hotels, bed & breakfasts, restaurants and local businesses. (MasterCard and Visa will be accepted.)
The event takes place in the Linden Place ballroom and tented courtyard. Advance tickets are $35 (with a limited number sold at the door for $40) at Sovereign Bank on Hope Street, online with a credit card at www.WeTeachWine.com or from any Bristol County Lions Club member. Tickets include all food and beverages. Call Debra at 487-9678 for more information.
