TIVERTON — Tiverton Library Services recently held the grand finale and awards ceremony for the 2008 “Catch the Reading Bug!” summer reading club. Collectively, summer reading participants read over 2,400 hours this summer between June 25 and Aug. 7. Summer reading participation increased this year to 400 children.

Reading club members who completed club requirements, by reading or listening for six or more hours this summer, received reading achievement certificates at our awards ceremony on Aug. 7. Certificates were awarded to 263 children, and an additional 15 children received a good effort certificate for reading or listening to books for three, four or five hours.

Throughout the summer, children played the “Name That Bug” game, entered a guessing contest, completed color sheets, collected reading incentive prizes and attended special events by entertainers, storytellers and a magician.

Winners of the PawSox All-Star Reading Contest were Makenzie Adams and Josh Simoes. They each received four tickets to the Aug. 19 PawSox game and a chance to win a trip to DisneyWorld. Winner of the “Guess How Many Bugs Are In The Jar?” contest was Casey Michaels. She won a prize package for her exact guess of 682 bugs. Emily Moreira, Logan Maitland and Rylie Maitland each got consolation prizes for their close guesses.
