Owner Bob Healey finds a buyer for his popular restaurant, The Cheese Plate
WARREN — Dependent on a beer and wine liquor license transfer that will be reviewed during a Warren Town Council meeting next month, Rick “RJ” Alves will be purchasing The Cheese Plate from Barrington resident Bob Healey.
Mr. Healey said his popular State Street restaurant is one of his favorite operations but other endeavors — political and entrepreneurial — are drawing too much of his time to keep running the restaurant.
“I’ve got quite a few irons in the fire,” said Mr. Healey.
Specifically, he has business ventures in South America he would like to grow. He also has plans to market a cheese-related device, perhaps using infomercials as a marketing tool. And while he is not enthused about selling The Cheese Plate, he said he is excited about another adventure.
“I like startups and new projects ... I continue with them until they bear fruit,” said Mr. Healey. “It’s not like I’m dissatisfied. There’s just only so many hours in the day.”
Mr. Healey has run for lieutenant governor after creating the Cool Moose Party, a campaign with the ultimate goal of dissolving the office to save taxpayers about $1 million, according to Mr. Healey. He said he will run for the governor’s or lieutenant governor’s seat. However, he refrained to formally announce his candidacy.
Mr. Alves said he would keep the restaurant’s signature style the same but will be updating the decor to a more intimate setting. He also said gift certificates will be honored under the new ownership.
“I will have the same great wines and cheeses from around the world,” Mr. Alves stated in an e-mail.
He is planning to open near Valentine’s Day.
