Officers take dozens of rolls of toilet paper off three boys
BARRINGTON — There were a few tricks to go along with all the treats being passed out on Halloween.
According to last week’s police reports, officers were kept pretty busy on Oct. 31, first stopping some would-be toilet paper pests and later pulling five teenagers off the roof at the middle school.
At about 1:30 p.m., police officers encountered three teenage boys walking down the East Bay Bike Path carrying large plastic bags. They confronted the boys and asked them to open the bags — inside were 51 rolls of toilet paper.
Officers reportedly asked the boys why they were carrying around more than four dozen rolls of toilet paper. There was no response.
Police confiscated the toilet paper, called the teenagers’ parents and later released the boys.
Eight hours later, at about 9:37 p.m., an officer on routine patrol noticed a small group of teenagers hanging out at Barrington Middle School. The teens told the officer that some of their friends were on the roof of the school and were unable to get down; they had reportedly climbed up a pipe to get to the roof, but when the pipe became wet they were afraid to climb back down.
The officer radioed the Barrington Fire Department for assistance and a few minutes later Engine 1 responded to the school with a ladder. The teens were released to their parents and no one was charged.
