BARRINGTON — In town Friday evening, Oct. 30, the Barrington High School girls’ volleyball team sent out its seniors in style as the Eagles completed their 2009 Division Two-South regular season with a 3-1 victory over visiting St. Mary Academy-Bay View.

Barrington used superior service and receive games to take the opener against the Bengals Friday, 25-17. A Holly Gildea kill actually ended the contest while Nadia Rudman, specifically, toed the line for several key points in the first game.

The Eagles received solid all-court efforts throughout from its three departing seniors Alyssa Madwed (team-high 11 kills) Jess Boukarim (six kills) and Chelsea D’Angelo (five digs) as well as the likes of libero Gina Anderson en route to the eventual win by the added scores of 25-21, 17-25 and 25-20. The senior trio and its families were honored prior to the match.

Both Barrington and Bay View finished with 9-7 records in the Two-South standings and with a split of their two-game season series. The Bengals, however, earned the tiebreaker over the Eagles for fourth place and a home match in the opening round of the league playoffs by virtue of games won in the two matches, 4-3. Bay View swept Barrington in the first meeting of the sides a month ago in East Providence.

The Eagles, who as the fifth seed out of Two-South will be making their first postseason appearance since 2004, travel to North Smithfield, the fourth seed out of Two-North, Tuesday night, Nov. 3, at 6 in the first round of the playoffs. The Northwomen finished their regular season with an 8-8 record.

A date against unbeaten Two-South champ Tiverton awaits the Scituate-Barrington winner. The 16-0 Tigers host the victor Thursday night, Nov. 5, in the quarterfinals. The D-Two semis take place Monday, Nov. 9, at Keaney Gym on the University of Rhode Island campus.

Bay View, as the South fourth seed, hosts North fifth-seeded Tolman Tuesday. The 7-9 Tigers edged Warwick Vets for the spot in the standings based on points scored between the sides, the third tiebreaker after head-to-head and games won. Tolman and Vets each won four games as they split head-to-head meetings. The Tigers scored 170 points to 161 for the Hurricanes in the eight games.
