EAST BAY — Each of the five local entries into the Rhode Island Interscholastic League girls’ volleyball ranks has earned a berth in their upcoming championship tournaments, including Tiverton High School, which is the unbeaten and top seed in the Division Two event.

The Tigers finished their season with a perfect 16-0 record and as the Two-South regular season champions. Tiverton receives an opening round bye in the field of 12 teams. The Tigers will host a quarterfinal match later next week against the winner of a prelim between the fourth-seeded side from Two-North, 8-8 North Smithfield, and the fifth-seeded squad from Two-South, which will be either Bay View or Barrington depending on the outcome of their regular season finale meeting tonight, Oct. 30.

Both the Bengals, who enter their finale at 9-6, and the Eagles, at 8-7, have also qualified for the postseason. One of them heads to North Smithfield for a prelim early next week. The other, as the fourth seed from the South, hosts either Warwick Vets or Tolman. The Hurricanes and Tigers each finished with 7-9 records in Two-North. A tiebreaker at the coaches’ meeting set this weekend will determine who finishes fifth or sixth in the standings.

Mt. Hope, which completed its slate at 6-10, knows it is the sixth seed out of the South and is on the road for its preliminary game against the third seed from the North, 12-4 Scituate.

Cranston West and Mount St. Charles each finished with 15-1 records and are the top two seeds in the North subgroup. Because the Falcons and Mounties gave each other their lone loss, a tiebreaker is needed to determine which team is seeded first or second.

Exeter-West Greenwich, at 14-2, is the second place side out of the South and like Tiverton, Mount and West, earned a first-round bye. Westerly, as the third seed from the South, hosts the loser of the tiebreaker between Vets and Tolman in its opening round match.

Division Two preliminary round games are scheduled to take place Tuesday, Nov. 3, at the site of the higher seeds followed by the quarterfinals Thursday, Nov. 5, again at the sites of the higher-seeded sides. The semifinals are set for Monday, Nov. 9, at 6 and 8 p.m. at Keaney Gym on the University of Rhode Island Campus. The D-Two title match is back at Keaney Saturday, Nov. 14, at 3 p.m.

DIVISION ONE

The defending Division Two champion won’t get a chance for a repeat because Prout, the reigning holders of the title, have moved up to Division One this fall and did so in impressive fashion.

The Crusaders finished their initial campaign in the state’s top tier undefeated at 18-0 and is the overall top seed in the state tournament. Prout is ranked first from One-South with North Kingstown second at 12-5.

Those two sides, along with Two-North champ East Providence and two-time defending state champ LaSalle, get the free passes into the quarterfinal round in Division One. The Townies finished their slate with a 17-1 record, their lone loss coming to the aforementioned Crusaders. The Rams placed second in the North with a 13-5 mark.

The rest of the playoff teams from One-North include third-place Classical (12-6), fourth-place Ponaganset (10-8), fifth-place Burrillville (8-10) and sixth-place Cumberland (7-11). Either Coventry or Toll Gate, both at 10-7, will be the third or fourth seed out of One-South, pending the results of their regular season finales Friday and possible tiebreakers. Coventry plays 7-10 South Kingstown, which is the sixth seed from the subgroup. Toll Gate plays North Kingstown. At 9-9, Chariho is the fifth seed from One-South.

The D-One preliminary round matches are slated for Wednesday, Nov. 4, with the quarters to follow two nights later, Nov. 6. The sites of both rounds are at the higher-seeded teams. The D-One semis are set for Keaney Tuesday, Nov. 10, with the state championship match also at URI Saturday, Nov. 14, at 5 p.m.
