Join the Ten Mile River Watershed Council for this third annual hike on a little-known trail through Seekonk Meadows and the Charles Mararian Farm. The trail offers good views of Gameno and Central Ponds, and some cellar holes being taken over by forest. The walk is just under two miles. Bring water; bug spray will be provided.
Harold Stirling Vanderbilt, son of William and Alva Vanderbilt of Marble House, is best known for successfully defending the America’s Cup three times in the 1930s. In this illustrated lecture, Trudy Coxe, CEO and executive director of The Preservation Society of Newport County, will share stories and images from his celebrated sailing career and explore Newport’s role in the history of the America’s Cup. Advance registration is required.

See for yourself when they come to the Audubon Society of Rhode Island’s Environmental Education Center for Raptor Weekend Saturday and Sunday. Wildlife rehabilitators and experts from across the Northeast will be showcasing a wide variety of these extraordinary birds at the largest raptor celebration in New England. Falcons, owls and hawks will be featured in live flight demonstrations and educational programs for bird enthusiasts of all ages.
New this year is “Art of the Raptor.” Select artists have been invited to showcase their work throughout the weekend, with raptor paintings, photography, jewelry and carvings on display and available for purchase.
