    1. RWU Talking in the Library with Margot Livesey @ Roger Williams University
      4:30 pm – 5:30 pm

      Margot Livesey is the author of seven novels, most recently “The Flight of Gemma Hardy.” She has been the recipient of fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation, the N.E.A., the Massachusetts Artists’ Foundation and the Canada Council for the Arts. Livesey is currently a distinguished writer-in-residence at Emerson College. She is the inaugural guest writer for Roger Williams University’s new Fellowship in Fiction and Creative Nonfiction.

      The event is free and open to the public; it will be held in the Mary Tefft White Center of the main library at Roger Williams University.

      Roger Williams University junior and senior dance and performance studies majors present original works. Their performance will portray the athleticism of the human body through the theme of desire.

    1. RWU Law Film Screening & Panel: “Gideon at 50: What the Right to Counsel Means Today” @ Roger Williams University Law School
      6:00 pm – 8:00 pm

      Members of the community are invited to a panel discussion and screening of the recently released 30-minute documentary, “Defending Gideon,” a film narrated by Martin Sheen and produced by the Constitution Project that examines the case of Clarence E. Gideon, who challenged the fact that he could not afford a lawyer to defend himself against a conviction 50 years ago, setting off what would become a Consitituional right to an attorney. Following the film screening will be a panel discussion of Gideon’s impact on prosecution and defense and the legislative process.

      Panelists will include Tara Allen, assistant federal defender in the District of R.I.; Gerald J. Coyne, deputy attorney general of RIAG; Debra Krupp, training coordinator for the Committee for Public Counsel Services, Mass.; Family Court Magistrate Charles J. Levesque, a former R.I. state Senator; the Honorable John J. McConnell, U.S. District Court of R.I.; Mary McElroy, an R.I. Public Defender. RWU Law Dean Andy Horwitz and RWU Law Professor Priya Lakhi, acting director of the Criminal Defense Clinic, will moderate the panel.

      A light buffet will be served.

      The event will be held in the RWU School of Law Building, Room 283, 10 Metacom Ave., Bristol, from 6 to 8 p.m.

    1. East Providence Area Chamber Co-hosting PawSox Welcome Home Luncheon @ Providence Marriott
      12:00 pm – 2:00 pm

      The East Providence Area Chamber will co-host the annual Pawtucket Red Sox Welcome Home Luncheon on Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at the Marriott Providence Downtown, located at 1 Orms Street, Providence from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM.

      The Chamber will welcome the players, managers and coaches and celebrate the kickoff of the PawSox 2013 season. John Tudor, former Red Sox left handed pitcher, will be the guest speaker. Tudor made his debut in 1979 at the age of 25 and played professionally for the Red Sox, Cardinals, Pirates and Dodgers before he retired in 1990. The event is open to the public and reservations are required. Cost per person for the luncheon is $40. Table sponsorships are also available.

    1. RWU Presents Opening Exhibition of Painter Mark Freedman @ Roger Williams University Law School
      5:30 pm – 7:30 pm

      Roger Williams University presents an opening exhibition of new work by Mark Freedman, a Providence-based painter whose urban art scenes have exhibited in galleries across Rhode Island and Massachusetts, in the prestigious art journal, New American Paintings,” as well as in the film, “Say You’ll Be Mine.”
      From cityscapes to trains to oil tanks, Freedman is captivated by the urban environment’s “unique ability to capture and hold light.” With a love of painting cities and their transportation systems, he captures the beauty and hidden stories of our urban environments.
      Please join us for this opening reception and opportunity to meet the artist. RWU Art On Campus sponsors this event in conjunction with the RWU School of Law.

      The event will be held in the RWU School of Law Building, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

    1. RWU Talking in the Library with Shelley Puhak @ Roger Williams University
      4:30 pm – 5:30 pm

      Shelley Puhak is the author of “Stalin in Aruba,” winner of the 2010 Towson Prize for Literature, and the chapbook, “The Consolation of Fairy Tales,” winner of the 2011 Stephen Dunn Prize. Her poems have appeared in several prestigious literary journals and anthologies. Puhak is assistant professor of English at Notre Dame of Maryland University in Baltimore. She is featured in the 9th year of National Poetry Month @ RWU, and her program is co-sponsored by the RWU Alive! Arts Program and the Roger Williams University Department of English Literature and Creative Writing.

      The event is free and open to the public; it will be held in the Mary Tefft White Cultural Center in the main library at Roger Williams University.
