    1. April Verch Band in Concert @ Common Fence Point Community Hall
      8:00 pm – 10:00 pm

      The internationally renowned Canadian fiddler, singer, songwriter and step-dancer, brings her band to Common Fence Music. On the afternoon of the performance, she’ll host a beginner’s fiddle workshop co-sponsored by the Rhode Island Fiddle Project and Common Fence Music.     1. The Muir String Quartet in Concert @ Westport Point United Methodist Church
      3:00 pm – 5:00 pm

      In its 34th season, the quartet has long been acknowledged at one of the world’s most powerful and insightful ensembles and is a perennial favorite in Westport. The group has been in residence at Boston University’s College of Fine Arts since 1983.

      Celebrate the Feast of St. Michael & All Angels with sung Evening Prayer in the English Tradition on Sunday, September 30 at 5:00pm at St. Michael’s Church, 399 Hope Street, Bristol, RI.  All are welcome to hear the St. Michael’s Parish Choir and the Choristers in our Royal School of Church Music Program, who will be accompanied and led by Mark Johnson, organist and choirmaster at Grace Church in Providence.

      This event is free and open to all.

      Nationally recognized authors Hester Kaplan, Janet Taylor Lisle, Roland Merullo, and Taylor Polites will speak and read from selected banned books in this event co-hosted by The East Providence Public Library and the Rhode Island affiliate of the ACLU. Light refreshments will be served. Books on the Square will have the authors’ books for purchase and signing.

      DiscoverYou Events, along with Jay White of Uncle Jay’s Networking, announces the 4th annual Ocean State Small Business Expo on Wednesday, October 3, 2012 from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Warwick, R.I. The day-long event will have a “Business-to-Business” theme and feature over 100 exhibitors throughout the Crowne Plaza’s outdoor Garden Pavilion tent. The Expo will also include five educational breakout sessions led by area experts on various business topics, and a two-hour open networking event for attendees and guests. Educational breakout sessions begin at 12:00 p.m., each running for 50 minutes both inside the hotel and in the pavilion tent; and the open networking session is scheduled from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with food provided by the Crowne Plaza. Admission is free with a business card.       Barrington librarian Doug Swiszcz’s film lecture series, “Gotta Sing! Gotta Dance!: The Evolution of Movie Musicals,” continues next week with 1935’s “Top Hat,” one of 10 musicals that Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers made together.

    3. Holy Trinity Dance Classes @ Holy Trinity Church

      The Exciting American Style Swing Dance:

      This session is a four week Swing Dance Class.

      Wednesday at 7:00pm -7:45pm on October 3rd, 10th, 17th, & 24th.

      (The cost is $40.00 per person which is for the entire four weeks of Swing instruction)

       The American Style Waltz:

      Wednesday at 8:00pm – 8:45pm on October 3rd, 10th, 17th, & 24th.

      This session is also a four week Waltz class.

      Author Roberta Mudge Humble will present this look at Rhode Island’s “firsts, bests and uniques,” which explores some of the uniqueness of the nation’s smallest state. A quiz will be given to the audience to see how much they already know; participation is requested in routing out more superlatives and stories about little Rhody. Roberta Mudge Humble is the president of Westerly Armory Restoration. Call ahead to reserve a spot as space is limited.
