    1. Veterans Day Ceremony at Roger Williams University @ Roger Williams University
      11:00 am – 11:00 am

Roger Williams University Reserve Officer Training Corps Cadets are extending an invitation to the community to attend this year’s Veterans Day Ceremony.

On November 12, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in front of the University Flagpole (Administration Building) we will be honoring those who have fought in past wars and those who are presently serving in the military. This year we will be specifically honoring Women in the Military.

This year’s honorable speaker will be Chief Master Sergeant Ashness. She was the first female selected as First Sergeant for the 143rd AW Support Group establishing new programs and regulations to positively impact the men and women of the 143rd Airlift Wing. With a deployment and multiple honorable positions in the military, we are grateful to have Chief Master Sergeant speak on behalf of women in the military.

The ceremony will continue, as tradition, to lay a wreath in memory of those who have or are serving in the military. Guests will be given the option to lay a carnation at the base of the wreath to show their respects as well. (Carnations will be provided).

We look forward to spending this exceptionally honorable day with you and your friends.

A reception will follow inside the Law School where “Veterans of Valor,” a photo collection of the school’s veteran community, will be unveiled. These photos have been submitted by students, faculty and staff. The ceremony is at 3:15 p.m. on the School of Law grounds, with the “Veterans of Valor” unveiling and reception following at 3:45 p.m. in the School of Law, second floor atrium. This event is co-sponsored by the Military Law Society.

    1. Mary Tefft White Cultural Series: Talking in the Library with Dr. Robert Wiener @ Roger Williams University
      4:30 pm – 5:30 pm

Dr. Robert Wiener is the founder and director of the California Coalition for Rural Housing Project (CCRH), which has been the leading voice in California for the production and preservation of affordable rural housing since 1981. Under his leadership, CCRH has successfully lobbied for millions of dollars in state housing assistance, benefiting farm workers, first-time homebuyers, the elderly and disabled, and large families living in rural and urbanizing communities.

Before forming CCRH, Dr. Wiener worked with community development groups in Alaska, Oregon, and California. He is a member of the American Collegiate Schools of Planning and the National Rural Housing Coalition, and he sits on the board of the National Low-Income Housing Coalition. He is the author and co-editor of “Housing in Rural America: Building Affordable and Inclusive Communities” and has published articles on housing issues in trade magazines and books.

The lecture takes place in the Mary Tefft White Cultural Center in the University’s main library.
