    1. Stories on the Spectrum @ Weaver Memorial Library
      11:00 am – 11:30 am

      Children ages 3 to 8 who have developmental disorders on or off the autistic spectrum can enjoy stories and songs with their families.

    2. Opening of Christmas in Newport @ Washington Square
      5:00 pm – 6:00 pm

      This month-long celebration of the holiday season kicks off with a proclamation from the mayor, a tree-lighting, Newport Artillery cannon salute and live entertainment.

    3. Bay Spring Folk in Concert @ Bay Spring Community Center
      7:00 pm – 9:00 pm

      Celebrate the release of Bay Spring Folk’s first CD, “Get Yours.” The band (Larson Gunness, Greg Sadovnikoff, Sydney Montstream-Quas, Gary Deslaurier and John Wood) recently was a finalist in the Providence Local Band Showcase at Roots Cultural Center. Coffee, homemade pastries and CDs will be for sale. E-mail sydney_mike@fullchannel.net to reserve tickets. You can park at Atria and walk one block south to the Community Center.

    4. ‘A Bristol Christmas’ Concert @ St. Mary’s Church
      7:00 pm – 9:00 pm

      The Bristol County Chorus presents its annual holiday concert featuring a tribute to Chanukah along with familiar Christmas selections. Advance tickets can be purchased from chorus members or at Paper, Packaging and Panache on Hope Street, Bristol; and the George Hale Library on Main Street, Warren.

    5. Chorus of East Providence Holiday Concert @ Seekonk High School
      7:30 pm – 9:00 pm

      Richard Fairbanks directs the music of “The Song of Galilee” during the Chorus of East Providence’s holiday concerts. Guest soprano soloist Courtney Contente will also join the chorus. Donations to the Bread of Life Food Pantry in Rumford will be accepted.

    6. Billy Joe Shaver in Concert @ Channing Memorial Church
      8:00 pm – 10:00 pm

      Although he’s never been a household name, Billy Joe Shaver’s songs became country standards during the 1970s and his reputation among musicians and critics has remained legendary throughout the ensuing decades. Presented by Common Fence Music at Channing Church.

    7. Paul Geremia in Concert @ Sandywoods Center for the Arts
      8:00 pm – 10:00 pm

      For almost 40 years, master bluesman Paul Geremia has built a reputation as a first-rate bluesman, songwriter, a “scholar” of early jazz and blues, and one of the best country blues finger-pickers ever.

    1. Bach Cantata @ Trinity Episcopal Church
      10:00 am – 11:30 am

      The Choir of Trinity Church, along with a Baroque orchestra comprised of New England’s foremost early music specialists, will present J.S. Bach’s beloved Cantata Nun Komm der Heiden Heiland, BWV 61. The community is also invited to the weekly Trinity Forum at 9 a.m., when the Rev. Canon Anne Marie Richards and Music Director Brent Erstad will address the theology, performance practices and history of cantatas in Bach’s Germany.

      This 19th annual event will feature dozens of theme-decorated trees and other items that are available to win. All proceeds will be used for scholarship for local students, administered by Citizens’ Scholarship Foundation of Little Compton. Food at the Tree Spree may be purchased from the Village Improvement Society, which supports and maintains the historic Brownell House. Anyone wishing to donate a theme-decorated tree or other item may contact Caroline Wilkie Wordell at 635-2241.

    3. “Mini-Nutcracker” @ Sandywoods Center for the Arts
      1:00 pm – 2:00 pm

      Island Moving Company’s Mini-Nutcracker is a delightful abbreviated version of the holiday classic “The Nutcracker,” designed to introduce young children to the magic of this family favorite. Suitable for all ages, this version is less than an hour in length. There will be free refreshments after the performance, with an opportunity to meet the dancers and take photographs.
