    1. Parenting Support Group @ St Michaels Church
      6:00 pm – 7:30 pm

The Parenting Support Group will meet on Sunday May 19 at 6:00 PM in the Tildsley Building at St. Michaels Church, 399 Hope Street.  This is an opportunity for parents of preschool and school age children to discuss the everyday challenges they encounter in raising children today.  These might include, helping children to be resilient and problem solve, talking to your child about traumatic current events, changing behaviors, and family issues and other topics that parents bring to the forum.  The group is facilitated by a mental health professional and the discussion is confidential.  All parents are welcome, single and partnered, traditional and non traditional and parents in blended families.  There is no charge for the group but participants are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items and personal hygiene products for the Bristol Good Neighbors  pantry.  Childcare is available, but parents planning to bring children must call Tara Rudman at (401)569-4287 by Friday May 17th to let her know the number of children attending and their ages.

The East Providence Area Chamber of Commerce invites local business people to mix, mingle and meet other business professionals, at what will be one of the biggest networking events in the area this year. This spectacular FREE event will feature live music, cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, dinner and a chance to win a pair of Dave Matthew’s Band tickets and MORE!

Evergreen House Health Center is hosting the event at their facility located at One Evergreen Drive in East Providence, RI. Bring a business card and a canned good donation to support a local food pantry.

Laura McNamara, executive director of East Providence Area Chamber, encourages attendees to bring a guest or two. “This is a great event to meet new people and to catch-up with business friends before summer vacations begin. We tend to see larger event attendance before and after the summer months, and our generous host is going all out to make this a memorable evening.”

The event is free and open to the public. Advance registration is required; preferably by May 17. Contact East Providence Area Chamber of Commerce at 401.438.1212 or office@eastprovchamber.com

    1. “Steve Kass: The Roast!” to Benefit Big Brothers of RI @ Providence Marriott
      6:30 pm – 10:30 pm

      Kass-Roast

Big Brothers of Rhode Island is excited to “roast” their Executive Director, Steve Kass, on Thursday, May 23, 2013 at 6:30pm at the Providence Marriott, 1 Orms Street, Providence, RI. Roastmaster Ron St. Pierre will host the evening while fellow roasters keep the laughs flowing all night long. The dais is full of well known comedians and friends of Steve including Dave “Father Misgivings” Kane, comedian Charlie Hall, 630WPRO’s Vincent “Buddy” Cianci, comedian Frank O’Donnell, NBC10’s Gene Valicenti, 94 HJY’s Steve MacDonald (“Jim Shorts”), comedian Patrick Austin, 630WPRO’s Matt Allen, Tony Bristol and Steve’s wife Deb Morais.

All proceeds benefit Big Brothers of Rhode Island so the organization can continue to help “Little Brothers” with one-on-one mentoring. “There is an epidemic of young boys in the Rhode Island area in need of a positive role model in their lives,” says Kass. “Eighty to eighty-five percent of inner city youths are born to single moms. With your generosity, we can continue to change the lives of these children.”

“This is a major fundraiser for Big Brothers of Rhode Island and the first of its kind for the organization,” said comedian Charlie Hall. “We will have lots of fun and laughs at the roast, at Steve’s expense of course. But the real reason to smile is in knowing that this event will help Big Brothers of Rhode Island’s mentoring program.”

Tickets are $75 each or you can purchase a table of 10 for $600. Ticket includes dinner and the show and can be purchased online at www.bigbrothersri.org. Special thanks to Arthur Robbins at the Providence Marriott (who is also a Big Brother), Cardi’s Furniture, D.A. Videography, ATR Treehouse and to all of the roasters for their help and support of this event.

    1. South Coast Artists Open Studio Tour @ South Coast Artist Open Studio Tour
      11:00 am – 5:00 pm

      Celebrating 10 Years  of Creativity

with the South Coast Artists Studio Tour

The summer of 2013 will certainly be special for the South Coast as it marks the 10th year that artists will connect with the community by throwing open their studio doors, inviting art lovers from all over New England to explore the inspiring world that they call home.

The 10th annual South Coast Artists Tour is scheduled for two separate weekends, July 20-21 and Aug. 17-18, from 11 am to 5 pm each day. The Tour has become known as the cultural highlight of the summer for this beautiful coastal region of New England. It showcases the visionary works of 75 artists living and working in the coastal towns of Tiverton and Little Compton, RI and Dartmouth and Westport, MA.

The theme of this year’s tour is “Creative Waters” whereby artists are encouraged to explore the relationship water has to this area. This will be accomplished through the variety of mediums including paint, encaustic, pastel, watercolor, photography, sculpture, wood, metal, ceramics, jewelry, textiles, basketry and even shells. What they do with those materials to interpret a watery muse should be inspiring and worth a visit to the South Coast.

The tour is very accessible, thanks to an easy-to-read brochure and map, available at many local businesses and online at SCA’s website – www.southcoastartists.org. The self-guided tour will have you traveling down small highways and rural byways, accented with breathtaking coastal views.

South Coast Artists is a non-profit organization comprised of nationally-known and emerging artists, all with a passionate interest in education and the arts. SCA’s mission is to promote all types of artists and art education throughout this region of New England. SCA provides a comprehensive website directory, enhanced artist resources, and related events for the community and sponsors. WGBH Boston and Cardi’s Furniture are major supporters of this creative initiative, along with many other regional and local businesses and art patrons.

For more information, or to see the creative work of our artists, please visit the website at www.southcoastartists.org.
