I am writing in regard to a column that was recently printed in your newspaper entitled “Tag – You’re it.” In the column, Ms. Arlene Violet falsely named me as the leader of a concerned group of parents who attended the Aug. 23 meeting regarding the elimination of recess.

Congratulations to East Providence Superintendent Mario Cirillo for hosting a meeting with parents after making the unilateral decision to change the form and format of recess for all elementary school children in East Providence. He could have invited parents into the planning process, allowing for discussion and consensus building. Instead, he was allowed to play victim to the angry reaction of parents.
