Video: Tiverton resident loses wheelchair at Patriots game, gets new one from Robert Kraft

Cindy Morais of Tiverton just wanted her chair back. Talking during a New England Patriots Super Bowl party at Silver Creek Manor in Bristol, where she works as a social worker, she recounted the story that earned her widespread attention following the Patriots' first playoff game last month.

Cindy has Cerebral Palsy and uses a wheelchair to get around. She is a Patriots season ticket holder and had left her chair at the bottom of the stairwell during the Pat’s playoff game against Tennessee.

“I climb 26 stairs to my regular seat. And when I came down after the game, the chair was gone,” she said.

Patriots security and emergency personnel put her on a stretcher and carried her to her car. The next day, her friend Samantha Medeiros posted a message on Facebook and it went viral. The media got involved and the next thing she knew, Patriots owner Robert Kraft was giving her a call.

“He apologized and said that he was so embarrassed that something like that happened at his stadium,” she said.

Mr. Kraft and the Patriots purchased her a new chair decked out in Patriots colors and pom-poms. He gave her the chair at mid-field before the AFC Championship game against Jacksonville. He even upgraded her seating to on-field seats.

Pats players and former players came up and spoke with her.

Even Tom Brady gave her a wave and thumbs-up!

“Wow!” she said when describing it, adding, “That was a 41-year-old girl’s dream.”
