The Mt. Hope tennis team’s hard work has paid off. The team made the playoffs by placing sixth in Division II, with a record of 8-5.

“We are excited to have made the playoffs,” said Head Coach Geoffrey Keegan. “It’s well deserved.”

Coach Keegan believes that the Huskies can play with any team in the division. There are some great teams in D-II, North Smithfield and Narragansett both won eleven matches and Middletown won ten.

“As long as our team focuses on one point at a time and keeps their composure through their individual matches, I truly believe we could beat any team,” coach Keegan said.

“It’s more of who is on their best game on any given day,” coach Keegan said.

“Hopefully if we play our best tennis, we can go far.”

Mt. Hope lost their last match of the season to Chariho, 4-2, at home on Wednesday afternoon.

The Huskies are a young team with many underclassmen. The team is led by two their two junior captains Meaghan Dolan and Jillian Parker.

“The captains have both provided great leadership and mentoring to the underclassmen,” coach Keegan said.

“The team has been fighting through adversity in their match play and representing our team and school with pride,” coach Keegan said.

Dolan plays first singles for the Huskies. The junior has been a dominant force this season posting a 9-3 record.

“Meaghan has been huge for us,” said coach Keegan.

Parker plays second singles for the team and posted a 5-7 record this season.

The doubles teams have also been a bright spot this year as well as the team’s depth.

First doubles team, Eva White and Annie Krzywicki, second doubles team, Olivia Vezina and Ally Picard and third doubles team, Mackenzie Dos Santos and Makayla Estrela have been nearly automatic this season.

“Being a young team with a lot of novice players, doubles was our weakness last season. We were too inconsistent and not able to get points from those spots.” said coach Keegan.

“This year has been a complete turnaround. We have been getting two, if not all three points from doubles, every match,” he said.

Against Chariho, the Huskies lost all of their singles matches and won two doubles matches.

The second doubles team did not get a chance to play due to darkness.

“I have a lot of faith and confidence in this team more than any team I’ve coached in my nine years. They are a fundamentally sound group when it comes to tennis and have confidence in their skills on the court,” coach Keegan said.
