Monthly Meditation & Book Discussion at Barrington Public Library

Posted

Each month at Barrington Public Library, patrons are invited to relax, renew, and become a part of the present moment with a Monthly Meditation and Book Discussion. Monthly Meditation runs the second Wednesday of the month from October thru May and includes 30 minutes of meditation and 30 minutes of an optional book discussion. The group meets this month on Wednesday, December 13 from 6:30 to 7:30 pm.

Monthly Meditation is led by Mary Scannell, a certified meditation facilitator. She will introduce different styles of meditation such as: guided, mindfulness, walking, movement, color, and tone. Participants can take this information with them for a richer practice at home.

For this year’s discussion the focus is on the book, Fully Present: the Science, Art, and Practice of Mindfulness by Susan L. Smalley and Diana Winston from UCLA's Mindful Awareness Research Center. Registered participants will receive an email with information on obtaining copies of the book from the library and the reading schedule.

Register for the Monthly Meditation and Book Discussion at barringtonlibrary.org or call 401.247.1920 x2.

Free and open to all.

Meet our staff
Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
