Manuel Canario, 86, of Bristol

Manuel Silva Canario, 86, of Maple Avenue, Bristol, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 19, 2017, at home. He was the husband of Maria Fatima (Viveiros) Canario.

Born in Matriz, Faial, Azores, he was the son of the late Josue and Aldina (DeEstrella) Canario. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Manuela Almeida and her husband Carlos, Gorrett Canario, and Manuel Canario and his wife Courtney; grandchildren Christopher Almeida, Carlos Almeida, Robert Almeida, Richard Almeida, Fernando Costa, Heather Costa and Maddox Costa; and great-grandchildren Benjamin Costa and Ava Costa. He was the brother of the late Josue Canario, Aldina Da Silva, Germana Neves and Feime Canario.

Mr. Canario was educated in Portugal and employed as a custodian for the Town of Barrington for 40 years before retiring.

Calling hours are Monday, Nov. 27, from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the George Lima Funeral Home, 367 High St., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, at 11 a.m. at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 500 Metacom Ave., Warren. Burial will follow in St. Mary of the Bay Parish Cemetery, Warren.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
