Lydia M. Cabral, 89, of Bristol

Miss Lydia M. Cabral, age 89, of Bay View Avenue, Bristol, died Monday, Jan. 7, 2019. Born in Bristol and a lifelong resident, she was a daughter of the late Manuel and Sadie (Mello) Cabral.

A graduate of Colt Memorial High School, Class of 1947, Bristol, she was employed by the former New England Telephone Co., now Verizon, for 41 years, retiring in 1989. She was a communicant of St. Elizabeth’s Church, Bristol.

She is survived by sisters Raquel Cabral of Bristol and Louise McNulty (Jack) of Newport, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by siblings Robert Cabral, Raymond Cabral (Mary), Martha Cabral and Dolores Malloy (Joseph).

Funeral services from the Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood St., Bristol, are Monday, Jan. 14, 2019, at 10 a.m., with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Elizabeth’s Church, 577 Wood St., Bristol. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Chestnut Street, Bristol.

Visitation will be Monday morning only from 9 to 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, RI Chapter, 222 Richmond St., Suite 108, Providence, RI 02903 or online at www.heart.org or to St. Elizabeth’s Church, 577 Wood St., Bristol, RI 02809. A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
