Kickemuit Middle School wrestlers proved themselves among Rhode Island’s elite in the state wrestling championships this past Saturday and Sunday at Cumberland High School. The team finished third in the state behind Feinstein and Western Hills, and several wrestlers earned state honors as well. Riley Bennett won state champion honors in his weight division. Placing second were Riley Furtado and Elijah Bland, placing third were Brock Pacheco, Ethan Bland and Lucas Brum, placing sixth was Josh Vitullo and in seventh, James Thibaudeau. The team, led by coaches Jay Grifka, Dominic Lombardo and Chris Case, went 8-3 during the regular season, along the way winning the Birchwood Tournament in North Providence and placing third at the Mt. Anthony Tournament in Vermont.
