Jose Costa Leitao Jr., 94, of Gooding Avenue, Bristol, passed away on Jan. 16, 2018, at St. Elizabeth Manor. He was the husband of the late Alzira (Paiva) Leitao.

Born in Rabo de Peixe, Sao Miguel, he was the son of the late Jose and Rosa (Cordeiro) Leitao. He is survived by his children, Manuel C. Leitao and his wife Berta, Philomena Melo, Carlos Leitao, Adelino Leitao and Ann Perry; daughter-in-law Leonor Leitao; grandchildren Gary Leitao, Ashley Simas, Bobby Leitao, Diane Lecuyer, Amy Leitao, Crystal Parker, Joshua Leitao, Jesse Perry, Sherry West and Eric Leitao; and great-grandchildren Elanie Simas, Tayla Simas, Cameron Leitao, Mason Leitao, Logan Simas, Hunter Simas, Jocelyn Leitao, Ariana Leitao, Malachi Lecuyer, Hannah Lecuyer, Dylan Lecuyer, Christopher Oulette, Victoria Oulette, Jason Oulette, Anthony Parker Jr., McKayla West, Parker Leitao and Victoria Leitao. He was the father of the late Jose L. Leitao.

Mr. Leitao was a botanist for Bristol County Nursery before retiring. He was well known as the “Plant Whisperer” for his exceptional skills with plants and trees.

His funeral services will be held Friday, Jan. 19, at 8 a.m. from the George Lima Funeral Home, 367 High St., with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. at St. Elizabeth’s Church, 577 Wood St. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Bristol.
