Mt. Hope High School wrestling team compiled 101 points and placed sixth at the RIIL state tournament at the Providence Career and Technical Academy on Friday and Saturday.

The team was lead by Cam Nappi and Corey Grifka who each placed second in the state at their weight classes and combined for 43.50 points.

Nappi wrestling at 132 pounds, lost a 4-0 decision to Seth Brown of Coventry in the championship bout. The senior compiled a 3-1 record and 21.5 points at the tournament. He pinned Burrillville’s Cameron Charron in 57 seconds after receiving a first round bye. Nappi beat DJ Lombardo of Smithfield in the quarterfinal match and won a 3-1 decision over Hope’s Darnell Dunston in

the semifinal bout.

Grifka a 160-pound freshman earned 22 points for the Huskies with a 3-1 record at the tournament. He lost a 4-0 decision to Ben Dougherty of Chariho in the championship round. Grifka also earned a first round bye before pinning Jeff Guzman of Cranston at 5:25 into their match. He won a 3-1 decision over Ponaganset’s Trevor Villanova in the quarterfinal match and beat Elijah Burgess of Johnston by a 3-1 decision in the semifinal bout.

Senior Aaron Meyers placed fourth and scored 12 points with a 4-2 record at 170 pounds. He lost to South Kingstown’s Noha Ladas in the quarterfinal match.

Senior Alex Tainsh placed sixth and scored 9 points with a 3-3 record at 152 pounds. Tarnish lost to Nick Gosselin of Burrilleville in the second round.

Aidan Bennett placed fifth and scored 11 points with a 4-2 record at 138 pounds. He lost to Pilgrim’s Andrew Soares in the quarterfinal match.

Noah Braga, Nich Gomes both placed sixth at their weight classes and Brian Games, Dylan Loiselle, Noah Mallon, Liam Mallon and Rich Amaral wrestled for the Huskies at the state meet.
