The Gendo Taiko and Shindaiko drummers and 12DC street dance team performed in front of a large crowd under the Herreshoff Museum waterside tent on Friday evening, as part of the Black Ships Festival.
It was the first time the festival was held in Bristol.
The event offered a range of entertaining events over the weekend. Bristol Town Administrator Steve Contente and Taku Hasegawa, director of the Regional Diplomacy Bureau, laid a wreath during the opening ceremony at Independence Park on Friday afternoon.
The festival featured many activities on Saturday, as the dancers and drummers gave workshops. There was also a demonstration by Bristol’s Best Martial Arts at Independence Park.
Later in the weekend, the festival gala was held under the Herreshoff Museum waterside tent.
The ceremony commemorates Newport’s native son, Commodore Matthew C. Perry.
