In a state as small as Rhode Island, with public and private high schools competing at various levels of play, many communities get a chance to celebrate a high school state championship. In other words, teams can sometimes triumph as the big fish in a small pond.
Yet the triumphs of the Mt. Hope High School gymnastics team stand apart. This team has achieved the highest level of success for four consecutive years, and these girls can proudly say they performed on one of the most successful teams in Bristol or Warren high school sports history.
To accomplish what they have, they must be exceptional gymnasts, both hardworking and talented. But the credit goes beyond the athletes.
To sustain a program like this requires outstanding coaches, dedicated parents, excellent private academies, and consistent support from the school administration.
To all involved in gymnastics in Bristol and Warren, congratulations. It took a village to win these championships.
